The Best Firewall for Tough Economic Times
Saturday, May 30th, 2009UTM Firewall from Sonicwall Over the years my teams have worked with about 4 different firewalls from a direct ‘hands on integration’ perspective (Checkpoint, Microsoft ISA, SonicWall, and Cisco ASA/Pix, etc). For 2-3 years now I have witnessed the transformation of SonicWall into a major security vendor. I have heard from my team that it is so hard for security vendors (let’s stick with straight firewalls) for a moment to have the marketing hype actually match to the actual technical reality. The harsh reality now is that there is so much that needs to be accomplished at the edge of the network (Anti-virus scanning, Anti-malware, Anti-phishing, Layer 7 firewalling, content inspection, IDP/IDS/IPS, email encryption, email hygene, etc.). This white paper posted by Sonicwall and written by Infoworld.
I am not saying firewalls are appropriate to do everything at the network edge, but a credit union can definately collapse complexity and expense with the proliferation of devices and use a UTM (Unified Threat Management) firewall instead. Enjoy this article on Infoworld.
