Cloud Computing CIOESI am so excited about my latest CIO Exec Series meeting on Cloud Computing this past Thursday. We are now in our 10th year. This Virtual meeting was very well attended and I am very enthused by the virtual meeting format and the leveraging of social media and networking to gather ideas, develop research, and provide advice to the group member attendees.

The meeting was on Cloud Computing. I have included the .pdf presentation and also some research notes (.pdf) provided by Chris Brunn with RWD.
Quick Summary –
• Some people are hosting Salesforce.com in the Cloud now and Blackbaud.com
• The vendors are not always happy to ‘scale down’ when times are tough for clients
• Microsoft ‘software plus services’ or SaaS called Azure generated interest with the group
• Scalability of the service was one of the driving factors
• Pay attention to licensing.
• Two interesting vendors emerged (Mosipro for backing up laptops into the cloud and Iron Mountain, Evault, Barracuda, and Sonicwall for Cloud based Backup as a Service)

More learning what their peers are doing and more in depth understanding research and knowledge is needed in the following areas:

2. Social Networking
3. Advanced Virtualization
